Painters in Camberwell for
Federation brick, bungalows & family homes.
Interiors, exteriors and finishes that stand close inspection.
Mousi paints Camberwell’s garden-suburb streets the way they deserve — Federation and Edwardian brick with its timber fretwork and roughcast gables, interwar bungalows, and the family homes and townhouses around Camberwell Junction — owner-managed, preparation-led, and insured for Public Liability and WorkCover.
A garden suburb built
in brick — painted
with patience.
Camberwell is one of Melbourne’s definitive garden suburbs, and its houses were built to be looked at from the street: Federation and Edwardian red brick with roughcast gables, timber fretwork and return verandahs, then wave after wave of interwar building — Californian bungalows, English revival and the celebrated Golf Links Estate — running out along Prospect Hill Road and the avenues off Riversdale and Camberwell Roads. Painting here is rarely about broad walls of render; it is trim work. Eaves, barge boards, window hoods, sashes and verandah timber carry the scheme against unpainted brick, so preparation means hand-sanding and repairing that detail, treating coatings old enough to contain lead with lead-safe practices, and keeping crisp lines where timber meets a century-old brick edge — on streets where the neighbours notice.
Four services,
one standard of
preparation.
Four services, chosen for what Camberwell’s homes actually need. Each runs on one discipline: surfaces checked before painting, preparation written into the scope, and systems specified to the substrate — never defaulted.
Every card links through to its full Melbourne service page.
Formal rooms, hallways, joinery and cabinetry in furnished, lived-in homes — often alongside designers, always staged so the house keeps working around the crew. Low-VOC systems in occupied spaces.
Interior Painting Melbourne →Timber fretwork, eaves, gables and sash windows against unpainted brick, plus painted roughcast and render: flaking coatings taken back, bare timber primed, hairline cracks raked and filled, and lead-era paint handled with lead-safe practices.
Exterior Painting Melbourne →Venetian plaster, limewash and polished plaster for design-led interiors, with colour consultation brushed out on your actual walls before anything is committed.
Decorative Finishes →Individual apartment interiors, and common property quoted and scheduled directly with owners corporations and property managers — access, notices and work hours agreed before the program starts.
Residential Painting →Heritage overlays in Camberwell,
in plain terms.
A large share of Camberwell sits within Heritage Overlays under the Boroondara Planning Scheme — from the Golf Links Estate, one of Melbourne’s most intact interwar precincts, to the Edwardian streets around Prospect Hill Road. Depending on your property’s overlay schedule entry, external painting may require a planning permit, and painting a previously unpainted surface such as original face brick is the case most likely to need one. We ask about overlays at the walk-through, keep proposed schemes consistent with the era where the overlay calls for it, and always advise a property-specific check with the City of Boroondara before an exterior scheme is committed.
Heritage Painting MelbourneEvery decision reaches you
in writing.
Whether it’s a single living room or the full timber-and-render exterior of an Edwardian home, every project moves through the same sequence — and every decision in it reaches you in writing before work begins.
Request Your Camberwell QuoteA senior Mousi team member walks the property with you, checks the surfaces and discusses the brief in full. Colour consultation is included.
A fully itemised proposal, surface by surface — repairs, preparation, systems, colours and timeline.
Floors, furniture, gardens and boundaries protected; interior work staged room by room and exteriors elevation by elevation so the home stays livable throughout. Access is planned at the walk-through — parking around permit zones and tram routes near Camberwell Junction, ladder and scaffold positions kept clear of street trees and hedges, and scaffolding written into the scope before pricing.
Surfaces washed, sanded, repaired and primed — the stage that decides how the finish holds.
The specified system built up in the coats it calls for — sprayed where it should be, brushed where it must be — with the site left tidy and safe at the end of every day.
The finished work checked against the written scope with you, and every colour and product recorded — retained as a Property Passport™ on qualifying projects — for precise future matching.

Painting in Camberwell,

Request Your Camberwell QuoteOften not, but it depends on your overlay. Large parts of Camberwell sit within Heritage Overlays under the Boroondara Planning Scheme, including the Golf Links Estate and streets around Prospect Hill Road, and external painting may require a planning permit depending on your property’s schedule entry. Painting a previously unpainted surface, such as original face brick, is the situation most likely to need one. We raise it at the walk-through and always advise a property-specific check with the City of Boroondara before an exterior scheme is committed.
We will almost always talk you out of it. Camberwell’s Federation and Edwardian homes were built to show their brickwork, painting it is effectively irreversible, and in a Heritage Overlay it may also require a planning permit. The better result is usually the traditional one: brick left bare, with the render, roughcast gables, timber fretwork, eaves and joinery carrying the colour. If a previously painted masonry surface genuinely needs recoating, that is a different job and we specify it properly.
Slowly, because that detail is the reason these houses look the way they do. Fretwork, turned verandah posts, barge boards, window hoods and sash frames are hand-sanded and repaired rather than blasted flat, coatings old enough to contain lead are handled with lead-safe practices, bare timber is primed before topcoats, and sashes are painted so they still open. The scope lists this preparation item by item, so you can see what you are paying for.
Yes. We plan it before the crew arrives: parking arranged around permit zones and school times on the narrower garden-suburb streets, deliveries timed to avoid the Junction’s peak, and ladder and scaffold positions set out clear of street trees, hedges and shared driveways. On tram routes such as Burke, Riversdale and Camberwell Roads we set the site up so footpaths stay safe and passable throughout.
Schemes that let the brick lead. On Federation and Edwardian homes that usually means deeper heritage tones on the trim playing off the unpainted red brick, with cream, ivory or muted greens and reds on fretwork, eaves and windows; interwar bungalows take earthier renders and olive, bronze and clay accents. We brush out test patches on your actual surfaces before anything is committed, and a complimentary colour consultation is included with every accepted project.

Mac and his team have done a fantastic job with all exteriors of our house, including weather boards, fascias, eaves, window frames, and render walls. They never compromised high quality standards for any reasons, and they paid attention to every single detail. Meanwhile, they were always professional, well planned, higly communicative, and friendly to every family member, including our dog, Gizmo. Strongly recommended for any painting jobs.
